From 1995 all Alfa Romeo keys had transponders (or ‘chips’) embedded in the key head, to enhance security (prevent the vehicle being ‘hot wired’). The type of transponder first used by Alfa from 1995 was a philips-fixed code type 33, widely known in the industry as a T5 chip.

Transponder keys were employed because only when the vehicle receives a certain unique code from the transponder inside the key will it be allowed to start.

FROM 1998 (approx) Alfa enhanced vehicle security further by using chips with rolling codes or ‘crypto chips’. These were known as Phillips type 44 (or T14) and then Megamos type 48 (or T6’s). This was to ensure that new keys could only be ordered through the dealers, however this is NOT still the case.

ALFA ROMEO KEYS are quite unique as the crypto chips they use, contain special chassis specific data on them, making them the most difficult to make new keys. This basically means even the dealers have to order keys direct from the head factory in Italy, which is specific to your and only your vehicle.

THE DEALERS TAKE A WEEK TO OBTAIN THESE KEYS. THEN the small matter of taking the vehicle to them for programming (not very convenient or economical if you’ve lost all keys!)

NOT ANY MORE! At Demob Locksmiths we have the software, vast experience and expertise to overcome these special transponders by using a technique known as eeprom work. The vehicle specific key data previously mentioned and security codes are extracted from the vehicles ECU or immobilser and then written to the transponder).

What this means to you is that rather than taking it to the dealers and waiting a week for the key to arrive, how about we come to you and get the job done in a couple of hours, even in ‘ lost key situations’.

REMOTE KEY FOBS: If you’re after a remote central locking fob (even if you don’t have one at present then we can provide this for you (providing the vehicle came with one when new).
